*Only* if you wanted to know the month/day. I note on the linked sword, Masanori only engraved the year and month, not the day.

It is quite unusual for either a traditional sword smith or a factory smith to engrave the day of the month. In fact, as I think aout it, I do not recall ever seeing the day of the month engraved with the year and month.
