    The stamped #32 on the habaki is a dead give away that this is a beat and abused Chinese copy of an Imperial Japanese Army officer's sword. The Japanese never stamped numbers on the habaki. It is a common thing found in Chinese fakes.

    I agree with Bob. It probably started out as a Chinese made reproduction of a Type 98 IJA Officer Shin-gunto.

    Other red flags: Hamachi and munemachi [notches for the habaki/collar] are not properly formed, and the mekugiana [hole] is too far down the nakago [tang].
