    A friend of mine found this small leather case complete with a break down field phone.I am familiar with the boxed sets in the leather encased wooden boxes but have never seen an example like this before.The hand set can be disassembled to store in the case.It appears than something has leaked onto one of the components so I cannot make out the Type or model number.I believe the small brass colored stake on top is a ground peg .Has anyone seen this type of equipment with a particular radio set? Thanks in advance, Geoff

    That is a kit for a phone line repairman. The telephone poles were set up every 700 meters and such crew constantly had to patrol them for repairs. Those soldiers carried that set.

    I wonder if this could be your phone? If it is then it is a Type 93 Sound Powered Phone. Illustration also illustrates how it could be used along the telephone line.

    Have just been given a tip on translating Kanji by a member on another board. Been flat out since. Here is the correct terminology for this phone;

    三式輕電話機 Ninety-three type light phone.

    Or in other words Type 93 Light Phone.

    I can't thank you enough for that tip you gave me. It has opened up a whole new world for me. Can be frustrating at times if one can't find the correct character. Not to mention my drawing with a mouse is the equivalent to a 4 year old with a pencil.

    Really appreciated your help. Many thanks.
    Cheers,
    Robert
