WW2 Katana Legal in Britain?
Hello,
I am planning to buy a Katana in Britain. Now in The Netherlands these are legal. But are these legal in the UK as well? I want to buy one through a colleague but don't want him to get into trouble. I will pick it up myself and travel by plane.
Can anyone help me with this? It would cost me quite a bit if this goes wrong and would not like my colleague to get behind bars
Cheers,
Rick

Re: WW2 Katana Legal in Britain?
Glad you got an answer. These are legal in the UK but there are important restrictions I believe?
Cheers, Ade.

Re: WW2 Katana Legal in Britain?
Indeed Adrian, there are important restrictions.
A quote from the message I got from the UK police:
"It is illegal to sell curved swords with a blade over 50 cm UNLESS theweapon in question was made before 1954 or was made at any other timeaccording to traditional methods of making swords by hand.
As the sword you are looking to purchase will have been made before 1954 then there will be no offence committed."
If members are interested I can PM the whole message I got. As what to keep in mind when carrying the sword around.
Cheers,
Rick
