    auction purchase. Matching numbered grey phosphate K98 bayonet with a narrow frog that is also numbered. Any insight into this bayonet's rarity or information on this type of frog would be appreciated. Is the frog a late war cost cutting design or would this be for a specific unit of the German forces.

    Well Joseph if you could have only one late war S84/98, this would probably be it. An E & F Horster, under the less common sgx letter code, riveted as it should be, production in 1944 under this code about 33,000 units. And this example is in very good condition. At the same time (1944) Horster were producing much more under the asw code. And with sgx they were one of the few makers still producing bayonets in 1945, about 9,300.

    The M42 designed to more easily be attached to the folding type shovel carrier. Best Regards, Fred
