Default Bajonet K98 made by E&E Horster 1942 ADAHL BAHM 1938

    Hi Forum
I have just got this bajonet, makers mark is 42 ASW so I think it is made by E&E Horster 1942. There is a small m below the serial number 3985, does it stand for Marine ?

The Scabbard has same serial nr as the bajonet

I cannot read (my photo is a bit bad) the letters on the frog, could it be ADAHL BAHM 1938 ?

    Regards
    John

Looks like a nice matching set to me, the M is a production mark i believe .

E & F Horster and other major manufacturers in the early war years were producing over 200,000 bayonets a year so to keep the numerals down they were marked in "letter" batches. Nice example you have got there. If you wanted to, you could probably track down a 1942 marked frog, to complete the set.

Thank you for id, the m might be marks mark, but I have one with an a beneath the number, so As far as the numbers with a letter underneath, serial numbers ran from 1 to 9999, at 10,000 the sequence started over a 1 with "a" underneath up to 9999 "a" and so on and so forth, so the m might be part of numbering ?

Yes thank you, it is in nice condition, I have an other bajonet with an a, so far as I know, and also like you say, the numbers with a letter underneath, serial numbers ran from 1 to 9999, at 10,000 the sequence started over a 1 with "a" underneath up to 9999 "a" and so on and so forth

Matching is good, and as just another piece of the puzzle the company being a very prolific maker a relatively short time later (1943) Hörster reached the double "zz" letter block. Best Regards, Fred
