Would like to see better, more detailed pictures of the etching, but both panels are standard Eickhorn etches on a standard Eickhorn bayo. That being said, this very dedication is shown on page 33 of "German Clamshells and other Bayonets", but this is not the same bayonet. There are slight differences in the etching. While this doesn't bother me, it does make you wonder how many members of Beobachter Abteilung 35 at Bad Connstatt purchased etched remembrance bayo's.

All it takes is one good photo to copy..and the rest is faked history. Not sure of this etch is the reason why I brought it back up to the top. Something else to take into consideration.. is the lack of any type of scuffing..scrapes..or a runner mark..this etch is perfect.

I have not handled many of these K98 Dress types..but curious..if the scabbard has a runner in it..or was it just the construction of the scabbard that allows it to glide in.
    Regards Larry

I firmly believe that anything can be reproduced, IF the cost of doing it is far enough below the profit of doing so. With the premium that etched bayo's now command, I think we have reached that point. As long as the person doing so has the knowledge to put the right etches on the right bayo's and the skill to do the etching quality properly, I don't know how you could tell. That is, until you start seeing dozens of bayo's from the same unit all of the sudden.

I'm not saying there is anything wrong with the bayo that stared this thread, but better pictures would be nice and then maybe we would be able to see any runner marks, or not. Taking pictures of highly polished blades can be a real challenge though, especially when your trying to pick up the fine details.
