Hi Deluxxe,,,this bayonet looks to be shorter than normally seen. I cant tell if its because the amount of light reflecting on the blade that gives it that appearance. It alos looks to have missing the block mechanism that releases the bayonet from the K98. Im not sure of the green felt as it looks like something was jammed in the slot. not shorter then normal just a short dress bayonet they arent rare or uncommon!! block mechanism is gone as Larry said !! The green felt was period put in them color is for each branch i think green is heer but i am not sure dont completely remember !!

Thanks for the replies, the bayonet measures about 12 inches long. Would that be one of the shorter ones?

Yes,it is short model.
The long measures about 14" to 15"

I agree with Larry re the felt , it looks to be far too much for the slot , these were very thin strips so as not to impede fitting to the rifle and were positioned below the block release tight to the metal

Not sure about the felt but these will not fit on any rifle.by davejb

The felt looks like a piece of green carpet jammed in the slot. just an observation

I have no idea what these felt pieces are suppose to look like.. There would be no way to stick this thing on a gun with that felt inserted. But I guess thats why their called "dress" bayonets?Heres a few pics..

The felt usually denotes the arm of service.
Red: Wehrmacht and Flak formations
Green: Jäger and Airforce supervisory troops
Yellow: Luftwaffe personnel
Brown: Airforce communication troops
And they were never intended to be attached to the rifle
