Well you posted it in the K98 bayonet sub forum, So you got that info. I would say it looks black to me, so Heer. I'm not a frogman, so maybe a expert on these can give you more accurate info.

I'm not sure if the later RB Nr code is known for KVZ. I have a 1943 KVZ marked frog and they seem to be quite common. Not Luftwaffe.

In agreement with the preceding comments, the Luftwaffe did use some tie strap type frogs but they seem to be less common than the no tie types. All of examples I've seen were brown or brownish and were Luftwaffe marked, which might or might not include unit markings. Circa 1940 a few of the no tie types are seen in black, and then they stopped marking them. Best Regards, Fred

If one takes the regulations of the Air Force to hand it turns out that both types, with and without grip security, were used. Here it was all about unity.

The type without grip lock can be recognized by the short middle seam.

With one exception, all types have been produced with grip lock with a longer middle seam.

Since the majority of leather equipment was dyed black from the factory from 1940 onwards and no acceptance stamps or unit stamps were used, it is almost impossible to say where frog was used in this case. Only the Navy also brought acceptance stamps late in the war.
The frog may theoretically have been used by the army, the Luftwaffe or the Waffen-SS.
