Can anyone answer mewhy the bayonet has "GARANTIE SOLINGEN" on it?
It is not a makers mark as such but it is marked to show it was made in Solingen.
Solingen was, of course, the centre of knife and blade making in Germany. It is world famous for this and making top quality products. A similar equivilent would be Sheffield in England. The bayonet is marked to show it was "Guaranted made in Solingen". Done a a sales pitch Britsh firms used to do the same thing and just mark items "Made in Sheffield".
Nice bayonet by the way. Is it complete with it's scabbard?
Cheers, Ade.
I am not sure yet. I know that sounds bad, but I have a fireman's knife as well, which is the same length etc, and I only have the one scabbord. I am not sure WHICH one it belongs to. The only marking on the scabbord is a 4. Nothing else. I will post pictures of it as well when I post the fireman's.
