Default K98 Bayonet with “skeletonized” frog

K98 Bayonet with the later war straight sided frog that is referred to as a “skeletonized” frog and was developed to fit along side a new folding shovel that was being issued by the mid-war to late war period. The bayonet is maker marked by Coppel G.m.b.H. and is dated 1939. Nice matching numbers as well.

Congratulations on a scarce frog and very nice bayonet. I think that the Germans called them the M42 (1942). They are sometimes not as well marked as the other frogs, circa 1943 for the R.B. Nr. types it seems to get better. As was stated they were intended for the M42 folding type shovel that was introduced at that time. Good catch on both. Best Regards, Fred

I think this might be a case where the frog upstages the bayonet. A very tidy Coppel S84/98 but the frog is the star here, as it is very hard to find.

Looks like a nice S84/98 bayonet with late war frog, but this is not a "skeleton " frog. b.r.Andy
