    Hi everyone,

New here and just got a k98, long time sword collector who got my first taste in ww2 stuff
Now, I searched here and there about that particular one I got and I didnt find too much infos, I wonder if it might be a WW1 model.
Sadly i cant get pictures right now but there's no serial numbers on either the scabbard or the blade, but it says ''Wessenberg Kirchbaum & co ( its an O I guess, difficult to see some pitting makes it hard to see) Soligen.
From the pictures I saw on this site or others they almost all have serial numbers stamped on the blade, not mine.
The tip is noticibly wider than the ricasso and there's the tipical grooves on the wood scales of the handle.
No eagles markings whatsoever or any other one for that matter.

I know its kinda hard to help without a picture., I'll try to get one as soon as possible.

Sounds like a WWI "Butcher Blade Bayonet"...As these bayonets are being reproduced with the same misspelled markings as you've posted them, I advise that you post a photo to help us help you...Welcome to the Forum!
    cheers, Glenn

Sure, I'll try to post pics as soon as I can.
    Thanks for the welcoming.
Since there's a good deal of pitting in that section I had some trouble reading the inscriptions, but its Weyersberg and not Wessen...
Is there any other infos I could give you for the moment that would help you identify it ?

can you say how long? the dimensions? all stamps?

Weyersberg Kirchbaum made a lot of models, also for export.

This can be all... and the most fix the System 98 bayonet lug.

The K98k is only a rifle / carbine model... a lot of bayonets fix the system 98 bayonet lug.

    Regards

    19,5 inches overall.
    14,5 inches for blade length.
    No other markings whatsoever.
But I think Bigmacglenn nailed it, it does indeed seem like a butcher blade bayonet.

Thanks guys for putting me in the right track, its definitely a WW1 butcher, after some cleaning i got to see the W and 15 on the back of the blade, there another symbol that looks like and inverted D right below, cant identify it.
Got the back metal plate and the metal scabbard.
Any recommendations about maintenance, care and cleaning ?
