very late WaA. Since middle - end of 1944... the WaA officers use only a single WaA stamp on the pommel

Sleepwalker, That's a good photo explanation of some of the basics of Waffenamts to help collectors from some of the different types of backgrounds sort out what they are seeing. Regards, Fred

Here is a fantasic example of a overworked star marked S84/98 with later WaA stamps.

G is 1935 and has normal to bear the early WaA. The acceptance here is put to the bayonet since 1938 until ?.

Sleepwalker, Thank you for posting the photos with the different marks. Are the gripps of the late 44 bajonet riveted on the handel?

The brown bakalit grips are well worn but have the last 3 digits of the bajonet number on the inside

After admiring the nice engravings from my new letteropener for a while I decided to give it some nice wooden grips.
The wood wars $ 2 from my local wood store. The carving and sanding took around 10 hours.
Wood work is very relexing and a lot of fun. If there is interest in how to make wooden grips I can develop a tutorial.
    Have a great day
