I only have a general knowledge of this sort of thing and others will give better info, but just to make a start, this certainly seems original to me. I suspect your price for a real one is a little on the high side.

It is certainly not a repro, and for that price he got a bargain, It is real, and would easily retail for around the £90-110 mark.

I think you will find that the red felt denotes Armed Services in General
Green for Jaeger and so on

    How many do you want

I think that 150-200 is at the very top end price wise. I wouldn't expect to sell it at that price. 110 it would go, of course it would depend on how much one paid for it

I rest my case..... This one is minus the knot, but it doesn't make it a 200 dress bayonet

A very nice bayonet, and 100% real. If I had it, I'd ask $145.00, so a great deal on your friends part!

He paid £40 for it so well worth it, the blade is super clean, scabbrd has a few chips here and there and the frog looks good too.

Ah,, i do have here two military marked k98 bayo`s i could tempt him with the real thing so to speak.
out of curiosity what do the potepees fetch if sold alone,, and what do the colors represent?

Looks like a fireman's portepee IMO. Alone it's probably worth $55-65.
