Larry, thanks very much for your advice. As a parade bayonet, assuming the inscription is a later addition, what should I offer for it or is it one of those items I'll never be able to pass on and hence should avoid?

Chris, This is the best that I could do with the new images. With my overall sense of the inscription still being that it's machine done - but not close enough to see the tool marks that should be present. Best regards, Fred
