    Default Sg 84/98 iii bayonet?

Am I correct, edged weapons gurus? Would this have been used in the early part of the war? Also, I am pretty sure the scabbard isn't matching. Does anyone know what the numbers on the handle represent? I'm hoping that this isn't another molested reissue!

Hi Gd Pwny,, can you take it out of the scabbard so we can see the code numbers or letters on the ricasso area. The scabbard says WKC,, then again that could mean nothing until we can identify the numbers to see it it would be a match. Regards Larry

The flash guard is missing from the handle and with the additional numbers stamped on the pommel I would say it is refurbed/re-issued.....Pete.

Sorry for being ignorant, but what is the flash guard? Is that the hand guard? Because it doesn't look molested.

If this turns out to be garbage, I will throw it in the trash and hope GIZMO finds it! It could make it's way up north!

Bit early in the morning to be a guru, especially after a night shift but here goes.

The bayonet and the scabbard do not belong together.

The serial number on the pommel indicates that it is not German military issue - possibly a Portuguese contract bayonet.

The scabbard made by Weyersberg Kirschbaum in 1940 is German military issue.

The best site for looking at this type of bayonet is here - where you will see the placement of the serial numbers and manufacturers markings.
