Here is an unusual lapel pin, presented to a former prisoner of the Richard I and II underground facilities that were located at Leitmeritz (Litoměřice, near Terezín). The Richard project was the largest underground facility within the Protektorat Böhmen und Mähren, with thousands of prisoners - many of whom were transferred from nearby Theresienstadt, working on weapons production. Construction work began during 1943, with production following in 1944 - plans that never reached the expected capacity. Several thousand prisoners died during an epidemic of Typhus.

Note: the "KT" on the pin is the Czech abbreviation for Koncentrační Tábor (concentration camp).

Interesting item,,looking at the 2 toned colored stripes IMO must signify the prison clothes that were striped also and the Red triangle must signify something as there were different icons that has varied meanings applied to prisoners depending of their gender or back ground. But this is just a guess! It wpuld be interesting to See Carl if you can gather together a list of icon photos and their meanings that would add greatly to this new sub-forum. Just a thought Regards Larry

Thank you Larry. Yes, the stripes on the badge certainly relate to the prisoner uniforms. The inverted red triangle identified the political prisoners. I shall add an identification chart shortly.
