To be honest I have never heard of Sir Nicholas Winton until reading this post.

That must have been very difficult to arrange to say the least, and costly.

A totally un selfish act and never mentioned. What a great man. RIP.

Sir Nicholas was thankfully noted and praised during his many others sadly do not see the commemorative markers laid in their memory whilst they are alive. Below are a few images of notable markers, which are as follows:

    1) Platform 3, Maidenhead Railway Station, England - a relaxed pose showing Sir Nicholas reading a book featuring the children he helped save (669 boys and girls of mostly Jewish background from occupied Czechoslovakian territory)

    2) Platform 1, Hlavní Nádraží (Main Station), Prague - the city where he saved so many young lives from being cut short.

There are also several memorials and commemorative markers located at Liverpool Street Station in London.

Less than a year ago, Sir Nicholas Winton was awarded the highest honour in the Czech Republic, that of the Order Of The White Lion - First Class, for giving Czech children "the greatest possible gift...the chance to live and to be free" at the same time Sir Winston Churchill was posthumously awarded the same decoration. Czech president Miloš Zeman stated that he regretted it took so long to award them but that it was "better late than never".

Czech astronomers Jana Tichá and Miloš Tichý named the minor planet 19384 Winton after him following its discovery in February 1998.

Truly "One of the Few" who stepped into the gap at a much needed time of persecution and murder. I salute you Sir! GOD bless, Leon.
