    I know it doesnít really matter now but could the scabbard have been made from different metal from the dagger, which may be why it hasnít lost it finish so easily. Some kind of transitional thing.

    Hi Rod, these daggers were gilded as new.

    The problem is, most of them have got "cleaned and polished" post war with Brasso type abrasive metal polish or the like and the original finish is now long gone.

    Sorry to keep this thread going
    But may I ask another question that has probably been covered somewhere.
    Is it illegal to bring daggers into this country. In other words would customs seize a dagger bought from abroad.

    It is perfectly legal to import these.

    Only gravity knives are not allowed.

    It was just that I read somewhere about some law about them being classed as thrusting weapons, no matter how old or valuable they are.
    But thanks for clearing that up for me.
