Here's another navy dagger from my collection. This time it's a dagger that was produced by Weyersberg. You can easily spot some differences when you compare it to for example WKC or Eickhorn. The pommel eagle is typical for Weyersberg, as are the "flat" looking side screws of the scabbard. Also the thick leather washer is characteristic for this maker.

Totally agree-the portapee makes this one shine special! For the same company that made paratrooper gravity knives, Weyersberg could make a wicked dagger as well!

Hi guys, this time I would like to show you my navy dagger by Hörster. The trademark on this one is stamped which indicates it's an early piece. In most cases you will see the etched variant by this maker. Although Hörster was a big dagger producer, navy daggers by this firm are far less seen than WKC and Eickhorn. The gilding of the scabbard is very nice on this one. I also like the special type portepee, which has a beatiful patina. Very interesting to see that every maker used a slightly different pommel. This one has a typical Hörster eagle.

Here's another one form my collection. This one has the mark of the distributor on it (Adolf Braun Berlin). This firm is known to buy parts from Alcoso. You can tell that this dagger was no exception. It has the typical diamond shape on the back of the crossguard and also the pommel is an Alcoso product. The scabbard bands are different from the ones Alcoso used. I have not seen this kind of hammered eyelets on other navy daggers. I think it looks pretty cool. The plane blade is typical for navy daggers that were assembled/sold by A. Braun. So is the orange grip.

Hi Danny...these distributor examples puts a different twist on collecting. Some parts are recognizable....and the detective work that goes into searching the identity of the other parts. In your opinion Danny...what are your thoughts on the identity of the blade..which a plain blade is not commonly seen? Regards Larry

I think the distributors bought their parts mostly from the same factory. All the navy daggers that I have seen with the mark of Adolf Braun are made of (mainly) Alcoso parts. It would make sense that the blade also came form the Alcoso factory. Maybe they ordered a plane blade to be able to put their distributor mark on the spot where you will normally find the Alcoso mark. I still have no explenation for the hammered eyelets, since this is not something seen on Alcoso scabbards. That's why this is such a facinating hobby. There is always something new to learn.

Here's another navy dagger that I would like to show you. This one is made by R. Klaas and has a plain blade. Navy daggers by this maker are extremely rare so I was very happy when I found this one. And the best part was, I bought it for the price of a common maker
