In the scabbard there is one piece of leather on each side. What is it's use? To hold the blade tightly or to keep it clean?

I love these. Nice Eichorn navy dagger, Donkihotis..............!
The 'knot' however, is wrapped in an army style and might even be an army portipee.
It may not be quite long enough to fashion a Kriegsmarine knot with it.
Regards,
Steve.
Hi Don, looks like a nice Kriegsmarine 2nd pattern, however there are a couple of points that need changing, the eagles head is facing the wrong way , the hangers are on the wrong way ie, when the dagger is worn on the left the eagle should be facing outwards , the scabbard is at an angle with the hangers attached with the shortest strap nearest to the crosspiece , the longer one further down the scabbard and the knot fully displayed to the front with the portapee acorn hanging down vertically, if you are in doubt check on some of the existing images of the dagger in period wear, also the release button goes to the rear, PS, dont let Ade catch you with the dagger in the scabbard wrong, lol, its one of his pet hates
