I am having trouble finding information about the 2nd pattern scabbard base metal.
I just purchased a Holler navy dagger w/portepee and orange handle and the scabbard is the second pattern with wear that has a great patina. But I do not know if the base metal is copper or a percentage. Can anyone shed any light on the matter.
    Thanks, marty

Most navy scabbards are made of brass but late in the war some companies (Alcoso/Eickhorn) made some out of steel, also some hilt parts late on were made of pot metal. Sometimes so called rainbow patina can have a copper colour to it.
