    not sure if this is the correct place for this! (mods , please move if not correct) , a couple of things brought back my dad from his time in n.africa and Italy while serving with the 78th div.
    first , I think this is a merit cross ?, no ribbon, but pin fastening, second. shield, from maybe afrika corp pith or tropical helmet ?, many thanks for looking,

    KVK with swords 1st class and a tri colour shield for a tropenhelm (excuse my english terms).

    Can you post some better pics of the KVK please John. Is there a makers mark on the underside of the pin?

    You will need to post the hat insignia in the correct forum.

    Looking for LDO marked EK2s and items relating to U-406.....

    KVK is an abbreviation of Kriegsverdienstkreuz.

    Looking for LDO marked EK2s and items relating to U-406.....

    its getting dark up north so will take more pics in morning !!, the underside of the pin is stamped 62,

    '62' is the maker Kerbach & Oesterhelt from Dresden.

    If you could post some clear pics we can see if it matches other examples by the same maker here on the forum.

    Kvk is the german name for the medal.
    In English it's called a war merit cross with swords.
    This version is a first class kvk.
