Kriegsverdienstkreuz ID

Article about: Folks, could you tell me exactly what these 2 items were issued for? The one with the pin has a 3, I believe inside a small box on back right behind the pin. The other has no ID marks on it

    Folks, could you tell me exactly what these 2 items were issued for?
    The one with the pin has a 3, I believe inside a small box on back right behind the pin.
    The other has no ID marks on it that I can see.

    Hi TK,
    Your medals are Kriegsverdienstkreuz 1st and 2nd class. The pin back being the first class. Both are made from zinc, hence the poor looking finish. The first class award is made by Wilhelm Deumer if the makers mark is indeed '3'. The second class will be marked on the ribbon ring if any mark is to be found, if not then it's nigh on impossible to identify it.

    Looking for LDO marked EK2s and items relating to U-406.....

    Thanks Adrian, I'll look on the ring and see...taking a closer look on the second class, its looks like a 4 on the ring.

    It now sits with the ribbon which you suggested, well the one anyway.
