Looks to be a very modern piece, the quality just is not there.....its an original St u L made piece IMO around late 70's on. Has fat catch, short pin, lack of finishing and probably (can you confirm) open hinge block.....I take it is Silver in colour, and not as in the photos a gold colour ? Take a look and compare with this earlier piece (pre 1968).
Prost ! Steve.
Cross in Silver colour. more foto.
This looks like a very new and poorly made piece from what looks like a 'Staybrite' alloy. Earlier pieces have much more quality to them. Here's mine:
Looking for LDO marked EK2s and items relating to U-406.....
it can be fake? OR THEM DO NOT FORGE? In what years it is approximately made?
As Steve said above, probably from 1970 onwards. My thoughts are that it was made in the 1980s but that is purely my opinion based on the look of it.
Not a fake per se but a modern made piece based on a 1957 design.
Looking for LDO marked EK2s and items relating to U-406.....
thanks for answer
Max......After the 1970's "Steinhauer und Luck" the maker of this and most of the 1957 awards began to slow down production, and it is believed they stopped production of most awards in the mid 1980's....most of these late 70's to mid 80's awards were made for the collector market, as St u L believed the veteran market had long gone......quality/care of production dramatically went down, most collectors do not touch these later 57er's because of the poor quality........However that said, St u L up to a few years ago still listed the Iron Cross (1st & 2nd Class) in their catalogues ! Here is a first class Iron Cross from that period. I personally like to have the earliest and latest (and everything in between !) variants within my collection.
Prost ! Steve.
