Over time and in certain environmental conditions and depending on the quality of the base material and finish applied, the silver can be absorbed into the base metal. Fact.
That is somewhat my point when comparing the excellent finish on my badge; each has their own story after the war in reference to how they are stored, and if correctly.

The KVK1 was finished in silver, not grey. Fact.
Here's another "four" colored KvK_1 screwback, just like my L/18 badge.

i still think it's painted, William. But that's just me.

but i do feel a little bit weaker... just a little bit... in my conclusion because you're putting up some great pics now. i feel like i ought to buy the thing and take a car key to it.

    then we'll know. lol

    at any rate... good posts.

Yes thanks for the amazing comparisons! We will now Monday. I going back to the shop with nail remover and I'll take pictures to show either way.

But as what been already said, even if it's not paint I am still investing my 200 in a better example. Sound advice.

Regardless of whether it's actually paint(which I also believe) or a somehow unfinished badge without it's silver frosted finish-of which there is not the slightest bit of a trace of-this badge is in no way worth the $200 asking price and is, frankly, quite unattractive in it's present state and would not fit into any collection I would have.

that's the great thing about this forum. it's not that everyone has to agree on exactly what's going on. often it just comes down to Wagriff's observation: after the discussion, does the weight of what has been said in total, painted or not, leave you comfortable with the piece at the price.

you have your own answer, which you have come to yourself simply by the act of posting.
