Looks to have retained 70% or so of its finish.
Seriously?
I can see where it's met someone with a can of grey spray paint.......
Apart from that it's a good L/18 B.H. Mayer KVK.

Re: Original KVK 1 screwback maker?
Thanks for the marker Adrian. I am incorrect on my assumption that late war KVK 1 were painted? Do you think this was re-painted post war? Thanks again Adrian.

Re: Original KVK 1 screwback maker?
OUCH!!!! this hurts! I spent 200 dollars on this thinknig it was original paint. I know, I know, I should have posted it before buying it; but I was starting to feel like a burden. Others have been upset on my prior post. I searched for hours and found nothing wrong with it, pin and all. Anyway the paint could just be misleading? Maybe its due to the Iphone potographs? We all know how bad they can turn out, wishful thinking? Sorry, and thank for your time.

Re: Original KVK 1 screwback maker?
These were silver plated/frosted - I thought it had no finish at all and was
wondering why you mentioned 70% remaining, when I would have
said 0%. If it really is painted, send it back.........!

Re: Original KVK 1 screwback maker?
I haven't either, Nick. That, alone-aside even from the ghastly painting-would have made me step away.

Re: Original KVK 1 screwback maker?
Rookie mistake on my part. Honestly can't tell if it's paint or just the original metal. I thought these were coated in paint. However, the color did confuse me. If I was to strip the paint would it destroy it futher?

Re: Original KVK 1 screwback maker?
As Steve said earlier, these KVK-1's were beautifully silver frosted. This one almost has the appearance of having been in a fire. If they were ever painted, I've never seen one. Of course, then again, I have no clue as to what to make of that Pin on this one either. For $200 bucks, I'd certainly be returning it!

Re: Original KVK 1 screwback maker?
The only time you see grey KVK1s is when the silver finish has been absorbed by the zinc base metal. KVKs were never finished in grey paint or wash, the first class medals were always silver and the second class has a bronzed finish - never grey.
