A large scale battle broke out today (6th July) between opposing forces of the Northern and Southern armies of the US. Close to the old hall of Tatton stood a rebel battery of artillery firing across the small valley towards where the Yankee bluecoats were situated.
Through the swirling smoke from the battery of guns I caught a glimpse of the opposing forces gathering to launch their attack on the small band of rebel troops determined to defend their positions to the last man. Crowds gathered to watch this spectacle, not realising that they were watching an event which was to shape the future history of America.
As the smoke cleared it became obvious that Johnny Reb had once again been defeated. I wandered through the almost desrted encampments before returning to the 21st century and headed for home.
