    The paint is like 90% on back of buckle; I can see the 40. Can not see anything at catch. I will take some close up pics.

    I think more than likely Gustav Brehmer, sometimes they just had the date under the roller bar and no GB like this example

    Here are some pictures - hard to make out the 40 in pics but this buckle has 40 parallel with the edge of buckle. Hope not too many pics.

    IMO the buckle is by Gustav Brehmer, when Rudi looks at this thread he will confirm it for sure

    Now to find a belt for it. I have what I believe to be a late war brown belt that may work with it but the steel Heer buckle I put on it looks better on it.
    I paid $55 for the luft buckle.

    I have just bought another buckle that I think may be german navy but will know once i get it. Owner's grandfather was US Navy on ship that was part of the aug 44-sept 44 invasion campaign. It may be missing the clasp on buckle but overall it looked interesting.

    Sorry for the late reaction.I've compared the buckle with mine .And of course our Ben is right again.A good Gustav Brehmer.
