    Default Luftwaffe Gravity Knifes

I'm sorting through some of my junk as her indoors refers to it and I found these which I knew I had somewhere. The issue is the second type at the top of the photo, it has a bakelite grip which I haven't seen before. I have had these for arround 14 years. I just thought it might be interesting . to see what the forum thought I have heard DDR used these after the war could it perhaps be refurbished or is it period. The lanyard hook is missing, was it ever there could it be late war or has it been repaired?

The spike has the Luftwaffe waffenamt 5 and is RB No on reverse.
The removable housing has the serial 664(see photo) as does the body but the first digit is only just visible (possibily not on photo).

As you can see I have rediscovered them before the rust sets in propper as we had a bit of damp in the cellar.

Thank you in advance for any thoughts on it.

Hi Jock, I have never seen or heard of one with bakelite grips before? I will ask a few friends about it.

    Cheers, Ade.

Looks like not only is the handle resin, but the metal is also finished in the phosphate finish. I never knew they did that to these....

Here's something sort of similar. Not a gravity knife, but a collector friend of mine had this gun that is in the link below. It is an ac45 K.43 that has an all resin stock to it.

I guess they were trying anything to speed up production.

    Hi, Ade !

There was the German "Fliegerkapp-Messer Modell 1945".

The grip was made of synthetic material.

    Maker: Holzwarenfabrik Carl Seifert.

The only pic´s of this knife, I´ve ever seen, I spotted in the German magazine: "VISIER SPECIAL" "NR.12 Militär-Messer" on page 58.

Because the copyright I don´t wanna show pic´s out of this magazine here.

The design of the "Fliegerkapp-Messer 45" is quite different of the well known gravity-knife of the WL ...
