    Hello collector friends,

I would like to introduce you this dagger. I would like to the opinion of the specialists associated with this item.
I myself do not have much idea of daggers, but my opinion is that the dagger is good. But when the blade I'm not really sure. It's not good for me.
I hope you can help me, thank you in advance!

Well IMO the dagger looks fine to me unless someone has objections with the etch..but even that looks decent. The blade is worn,,but still ok. Thank you Steinar for the close up pics of the etch..and the rest of the dagger.
There is a similar 2nd Luft dagger in the classifieds but with a Weyersburg logo.
This thread is still open for opinions. Regards Larry

Alot of these were made with different parts even during period, its a shame about that blade, you would want to display it outside of the scabbard to show off the etching and admire it but then looking at the bottom half of the blade and that nasty pitting would take away any joy for me......this one can be described as you cant have your cake and eat it too!
    rare maker I believe?
also I cant find this one in the classifieds but there was one posted today.

I am not a fan of the blade etch. The eagle looks like the "Gonzo" eagle usually associated with post war etches. In addition this etch on a Plumacher blade is a red light. Given the blade condition, I would certainly pass on this dagger.

Thankyou Wolfgang..these etched blades need a very well trained eye even in an in hand inspection.....photo images are hard to discern in this type of detail..what I did see was some blade imperfections that led me to believe it might be good. Close ups of the blade etch showed this. So is it normal to have these imperfections on a fake etched blade? ..or is it catalyst in making a fake etch?..Regards Larry

Larry, etched blades are a minefield, both on daggers and bayonets. A simple etch can add a considerable amount of return to an ordinary dagger. When an etched blade is found from a smaller maker, extra caution should be used. Post war etched blades can be found in all possible conditions. It appears that this blade was possibly aged to make it more convincing.

I'm very sorry Steiner but I have to agree with Wolfgang. I don't think the etch is original. Generally speaking you can say that 99.9% of all etches on luftwaffe blades without twigs under the eagle are postwar. Here is a picture of a real one (not mine unfortunately). You can clearly see the difference in the eagle and of course the twigs that I mentioned.

Thank you for your answers and information! And thanks for the picture to compare.
Now I know with the safety, the blade is not original.
    Thank you again.
I wish you a nice weekend
