Were you able back in the period to buy the ivory grips on any maker? Or were they mainly on voos? I was looking on some dealer sites and it seemed that most of the ivory grips were on voos?thanks again guys!
Hi Pammy, ivory grips were an optional extra offered by some makers but not all. Due to the extra cost involved not many Officers bought these.

    Cheers, Ade.

    I agree with Ade.
Etched blades and ivory grips were options.

There was a depression going on then too, and not everyone could afford 'top-of-the-line'.
Someone with higher rank or financial position, or who was of a certain character and
wanted to impress, would opt for this type of grip.

Daggers were purely 'decoration' - for show - and blades were probably never
drawn that much, if at all. So if plain blades were an option, why not go
for the fancy grip, when hardly anyone will see the blade anyway ! ? !

    It was a trade-off !

On the other hand, most if not all 2nd pattern Luftwaffe daggers I've ever
    seen had plain blades............!
    Regards,

    Steve.
