Sword blade length
Hello everyone
I hope you can help.
I've been offered a luftwaffe sword with a blade length of 26 inches.
I've searched the web as best I can and can't find anywhere that says the range of sizes of the blades.
Does anyone please know what minimum and maximum luftwaffe sword blade lengths were made?
Thanks
John

Hello John,
First of all, I would say that many of these were ordered for the individual and lengths can vary.
My example has a blade length of 26 3/8th inches.

Sword blade lengths varied as to the Height of the officer and so can be found in a large assortment of lengths. Heydrich, just for an example, was an extremely tall man and therefore had a matching extremely long sword. I don't believe that there were any set minimum and maximums.

Thanks to both rbminis and Wagriff for your replies.
If as you both say the swords were made for the individual then that would explain why it's impossible to give a definitive range of sizes.
Once again my stupidity shines through!!
Thanks guys

these swords were ordered by giving your lenght, i have an eikhorn add paper with the length of the officer and the sword belonging to this lenght, see the picture.

Interesting! I wonder if all of the sword makers had their own measurements or if they all followed the same exact route.

Hi thekees
Many thanks for the very interesting photo of the eikhorn ad.
As I said, the sword I've been offered has a 26 inch blade. If I've interpreted the ad. correctly that would make the officer arount 5 foot in height?
Thanks again

Hi again thekees
Would you please do me a big favour and let me know what the three headings of the columns are on the left of the photo just above the three figures 1.60, 71, 86. In German as they appear will do fine.
Thanks again
