Just got this one in, a fine shooter, not one of those de-acts. (I now have my RFD) I'm thinking the markings along the handle are unit markings?
Can anyone shed any light please
Thanks

Jager Regiment 148, 6th Company.
I would think it was Infantry Regiment 148 (5th Prussian) 6th company, of the 74th Infantry Brigade of XX Army Corps. I don't think Jager regiments were numbered that high.

You are probably right Jim, I don't know high the units numbered either - but it sure looks like a 'J' on the stamp versus the 'I' they appear to have been favoured by specialist units too so a Jaeger association is not unthinkable. The Artillery Luger - Introductory Article
Regimental's can be a real bear to decipher. I too believe the first letter is a "J", but "j" in certain contexts of property marks also stands for infantry. I can't recommend Jeff Knowles book on the subject highly enough. At 1st I didn't understand a word of it, but after running through all my regimental marked bayo's and swords, I started to get the hang of it.
