Need help with value on this WWI 1917 Navy Luger DWM

the story goes that they started out as 6" barrels but were cut down for use with boarding partys and on uboats (cramped confined areas) its a beuty of a gun thought and as stated can fetch a handsome sum of money but there are so many variations its a minefield out there

That makes sense Tom, i agree but it wasn't a standard practice as P 08s with original 4" barrels already existed...
@ Robert - does the end of the barrel appear convexed or simply flat cut ?

ahh but the navy were rarely issued with the 4" barrel variets it was usually the 6" there was also talk that the original hoslters were also "modified" cut down to fit the cut down ones

Thanks for the help tom, it is neat to think it could have been used on a uboat!! Thanos I want to say the end of the barrel was flat but I am not sure. Thanks everyone fot the input. I will keep you updated. Cheers, Robert

While no Navy Luger is common, this is an often seen example of a P04 that was modified during the Weimar period. Quite likely it remained in naval service with the Reichsmarine but in a modified form. Many naval P04s as well as army 8 inch LP08s were shortened to 4 inch models after WWI

Ditto on the above,
Lugers that remained in the German Military inventory after WW1, that had barrels longer than 4" had to be re-barreled or the barrels shortened due to treaty restrictions.
Being this Navy Luger has a 4" barrel, WW2 Magazine, and what appears to be a WW2 style holster, it's possible it saw WW2 German Service, and was taken to the U.S. after the war by a GI.
