Hi i was offered this gun , but i dont know anyting about Luger s, it has a strange barrel and a stamp on the grip(O.857) all the numbers are the same, eaven the barrel. The gun is stemped 1917 and 1920, Dwm, please help me on this

It's a permission mark, from what I can remember it's a refurbished pre 1918 gun that has been re- arsenaled, I might be wrong though, maybe someone else can correct me on that if I am.
1917 is the original date of manufacture.
1920 is a Reichswehr stamp applied when their weapons were inventoried.
dwm - Deutsche Waffen und Munitionsfabriken.
O.857 - this may be a Naval property stamp. O - Ostsee (Baltic)

could that also be a police luger. unit marked on the strap
I would need to see close up photos of the barrel but it appears to be a 1917 LP08 (artillery) that was rebarreled to four inches during the Weimar period. The 1920 is a Weimar property stamp indicating that the pistol was turned back in to the government in 1920 or later. The grip strap marking, as stated above, is a Third Reich naval property mark for the Ostsee Naval station at Kiel.
