Makers of the Nahkampfspange

Article about: Wilhelm Hobacher (Wien) Unmarked 1.10.1 (Side 152 The German Close Combat Clasp of WW2 Thomas M. Durante)

    Default Makers of the Nahkampfspange

Hi Guys, while reading some of the old posts which I have moved to this new sub forum, there does seem a little confusion about the makers of this award.

This award was DESIGNED by Prof Wilhelm Ernst Peekhaus of Berlin. He designed several awards. They were NOT made by him. The "FEC" in front of the name, is short for the Latin word "fecit". While that does mean "made by", in this context it simply refers to the designer.

    Known makers were:

A.G.M. u. K (Arbeitsgemeinschaft Metalle und Kunststoffe, of Gablonz)
FLL ( Friedrich Linden of Lüdenscheid )
JFS ( Josef Feix und Söhne )
    CE Juncker, Berlin.
F&BL (Funcke & Brüninghaus of Lüdenscheid)
H&CL /L 53 double marked (Hymnen & Company of Lüdenscheid)
    GWL (Gebrüder Wegerhoff of Lüdenscheid)
    R.S. (Rudolf Souval of Wien)

Unknown maker: the "6 dot" variant which holds the backing plate in place.

Also bear in mind some are devoid of makers marks.

Tom Durante's book has attempted to cover all these in great detail as there were many makers variations, especially those made by AGMuK.

    Cheers, Ade.

Thank you for starting this thread and sub forum Ade. We see enough of these clasps posted to justify a dedicated forum.

Joachim, your photos will be very welcome as you have some excellent collection of clasps.

Looking for LDO marked EK2s and items relating to U-406.....
