Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you.
The first one looks not OK to me but the second looks like OK (bronze version).
Unfortunately both are fakes. The silver one is of a version that was shown earlier this week that I believe you said you owned one the same and had doubts about? The second one is one of the commonest FLL fake versions but is easy to spot. The finish, backing plate, plate crimps, hinge, pin, catch, and markings, all are wrong.
'I do not think we can hope for any better thing now.
We shall stick it out to the end, but we are getting weaker of course, and the end cannot be far.
It seems a pity, but I do not think I can write more. R. SCOTT.
Last Entry - For God's sake look after our people.'
In memory of Capt. Robert Falcon Scott, Edward Wilson, Henry Bowers, Lawrence Oates and Edgar Evans. South Pole Expedition, 30th March 1912.
Thank you for your comments. I had doubts on both but wanted confirmation before getting rid of a real one!
I think I need to get hold of that book that no-one can get hold of!
The German Close Combat Clasp of World War II by T Durante.
The German Close combat Clasp of WW2 By Thomas Durante Papjay Publishing ISBN 978-90-81230-11-7
and the easiest giveaway for these types of fakes is the FLL. if it ain't got a curve in it, it ain't right
When you're wounded and left of Afghanistan's plains,
An' the women come out to cut up what remains,
Jest roll to your rifle an' blow out your brains,
An' go to your Gawd like a soldier." - Rudyard Kipling
A curve on the clasp or on the FLL mark?
