There is no way i can justify paying the price of TR cuff titles so i bought these, maybe one day they might be worth a few quid
I picked these up at the Mauerpark flea market in Berlin back in January, i've only just posted them due to my computer playing up.
It's only after buying them that i discovered that the Felix Dzerzhinsky regiment was part of the Stasi.
i've only seen the Grenztruppen title in the wool type cloth, has any one seen it in the woven (cotton)? like most of the others are?...

A nice haul. GDR cuff titles are a great collecting subject: As pieces of German history and uniformology, they are every bit as relevant as Third Reich era ones, but come at a tiny fraction of the cost. They make for an attractive display, too; I got myself a few as well:

Yes you are quite right that these make excellent "background" to a collection of other militaria and I have a few cloth items acquired before the wall came dow for entirely different purposes mosly connected with training. But being a collector these have remained amongst the contents of my "toybox".

Yes they are cheap at the moment, in fact the price really dropped when the wall came down and such items almost flooded the market. However, the price is steadily climbing back up as collectors are now specialising in DDR / NVA stuff so perhaps we should not be too cavalier in our approach to these "souvenir" items. I'm sure the Knights Cross et al were picked up as souvenirs at one time

Named for Felix Dzerzhinsky aka Iron Felix the founder of The Cheka that became (via NKVD) the KGB!!

I can think of better namesakes

Nice group there Gunny! I am looking to get a few of these as well. The TR era ones will not be in my price range anytime soon, so these are an interesting and related alternative. As Andreas pointed out, still relates to the uniform development of Germany and thus still a nice item to have. Well done!

Another addition to the collection, not a full length wrap around title like the others and from the little info on the net this is something to do with Interflug the DDR state airline!...

It's from the Staatliche Luftfahrtinspektion der DDR [National Aviation Inspectorate of the GDR] or SLI for short.

The SLI existed from 1968 to 1990 and was the government agency in charge of regulating, supervising and controlling aviation matters in the GDR so as to guarantee order, safety and security.

Its responsibilites included organisational matters, aircrew qualification, issuing licences, air traffic control, SAR matters, crash investigations, technical inspections and safety checks on aircraft and aviation-related ground facilities like airports, aircraft manufacturing plants and maintenance workshops etc.

Two of its departments dealt with the Interflug specifically: The Fachabteilung Flugbetriebsinspektion Interflug [Specialty Department Flight Operations Inspectorate Interflug] and the Fachabteilung Flugtechnik Interflug [Specialty Department Aviation Technology Interflug].

    I concur exactly Gunny!

As for the SLI it was pretty similar to our own CAA (Civil Aviation Authority) and other such bodies in most countries.
