Welcome to the forum.
If I'm correct I think I see 124 on his schulterklappen (shoulderboards), wich would mean he was a part of Infanterie Regiment 124. And for what I have found online this Regiment was indeed in Silesia in 1944 as part of the 72. Infanterie Division.
