Default Deutshes Feld-Ehrenzeichen badge, Hamburg 11.... fake?

    Hello,
I'm checking this badge for a friend who knows more about german stuff than I, but his eyesight is failing:

A quick online trawl turned up only one other... but the molding looks so poor that that one must be a fake WW1 Hamburg Field Cross Badge German For Sale.... did black screwbacks exist?

there were lots of the white and gold, pinback, variety- several from 'Hamburg 11'... might this proliferation of Hamburgers imply some fakery?

Having said that, the screwback has good marks... could it be from a different badge?

If this badge is correct, howcome the SS mark? have heard of photos of SS and SA wearing such badges prior to 1935, but I thought this was a personel thing rather than an organized one?

    cheers ,
    Jim.

WW1 Hamburg Field Cross Badge German For Sale???
It is fake, but please note that the item found under that link is not even offered as a supposed original; it is sold as "A VERY APPEALING EXAMPLE OF A MUSEUM QUALITY COPY OF THE HAMBURG FIELD CROSS BADGE GERMAN FIELD HONOR" (But even that is an exaggeration. "Appalling" would be a better description than "appealing".)

    No.

    Well, no.
These decorations were awarded by the "Deutsches Feld-Ehren-Zeichen e.V.", a registered association headquartered at Herrengraben 11/14, Hamburg 11. A "Hamburg 11" marking is found on nearly all original badges. (a "Hamburg 3" variant is also known, though, implying that the association's headquarters were in that postal district at some point); but while there is no problem with a "Hamburg 11" marking, this one is nonetheless not an authentic item.

    No.
No screwback disks with SS/RZM markings existed for any decoration.

Simple answer: Because the badge is not correct. It's a fake.
