"Douglas" model coin/medal of Adolf Hitler
Fuhrer Adolf Hitler Medalion - 1933 "Douglas" model - great condition
Pics below <item #161>
I understand that for some reason Hitler did not want any currency with his image on it. But that this coin was uncirculated which is how it wound up bearing his image. True? If so, why wouldnt he want money to have his image? Seems odd with his character.
Is this authentic? Value?
Thanks

Looks like a post-war fantasy item to me. The design, especially of the reverse, is crude and odd. In any case, it is not money; notice that it doesn't bear any denomination.
Hitler did indeed not allow his face to appear on currency; he intended to only allow this after the (victorious) end of the war. (Some prototype strikes of coins with Hitler's face are said to exist, though, but this is certainly not one of them.)

After a little googling, I found the following info on the coin. I would imagine
Germany Hitler Medallion 1933
A coin from Douglas
Date on coin: 1933 Mint mark: cannot find a mint mark
Country: Germany Denomination: none
Size: medium Composition: not precious
Wear: little or no wear Toning: not specified
Eye appeal: likable Holder: raw
Appraiser Response:
Considering the egos involved, it is surprising that no circulating coin of Hitler's Third Reich (third German Empire) actually bore the image of the brutal leader. One interesting gold 100 reichsmark coin is shown at this CoinQuest link, but it is only a pattern coin used in tests, never in circulation.
The egos came shining through, however, when it came to military medals. That is what you have, Douglas, a Hitler Medallion that depicts his rise to power in Germany.
The phrase on the medallion 'ein volk, ein reich, ein fuhrer' means 'one people, one empire, one leader.' It was a slogan for the Nazi movement, and still is.
Numismatist Dear Parr of the World Internet Numismatic Society compiled a list of the meaning of the 1933 dates that surround the swastik and eagle.
30 January: Adolf Hitler sworn as Chancellor
6 March: the Nazi party increased its share of the vote to 43.9 percent, not an absolute majority
21 March: the 'Day of Potsdam' was staged to demonstrate unity between the revolutionary Nazi movement and the virtues of old Prussia
November 12: the first election without opposition; voters were presented only with Nazi candidates
From Chancellor to dictator in only 10 months!
There were hundreds, perhaps thousands, of Nazi medals struck, and these are collected today. Several web sites are run by dealers in this material, including Wittman Militaria and NSDAPUniforms.
It turns out that NSDAP Uniforms has this medal for sale at this link at a price of $225 US dollars, so our estimate of retail value is just that, $225. If you were to offer your medallion for sale to Wittman or NSDAPU or any similar dealer, you might get $100 to $150 for it. The mark-up keeps the dealer in business.

I agree that this is not a coin and is likely fantasy.

Re: "Douglas" model coin/medal of Adolf Hitler
Some 'appraiser' he did not even give a value for it.
That is the whole basis for being called one - to
appraise the value !
Below is a sales list which contains a near identical
'coin'. Note the third medallion down from this
type reads 'Unser Die Zukunft' and '1929' on
it's reverse. The original medallion this was
taken from did not exist until 1933.........

True, Hitler did not allow his image to be minted on a coin or currency, but he Did allow many to be used on different Postage stamps and, of course, the myriads of different medallions and medals etc that you see in every country with their leaders face on them. Der Fuhrer Danks, types, etc. The piece you have shown, however, is not of the period and is never actually existed. William
