I've been offered this alleged DRL sports badge in bronze. It is supposedly ground dug from a famous battlefield but I think its a fake. In any case it should at least make for an educational review for myself and the forum.
First the obverse, I note a lack of detail to the wreath which is unlike any of the other 6 DRA and DRL badges I own, therefore suggesting a cast fake. Secondly the odd pitting to the surface which could be from corrosion but which I in fact suspect to be further evidence of a casting process.
Now onto the reverse. I note the lack of a manufacturer and this is where my experience fails. I assume some of these awards were created sans manufacturer but if so, I can't say i've seen any. If memory serves, the vast majority (if not all) of the examples i've seen are manufactured by Wernstein. Plus the hardware and pin look 'odd' to me.
So what says the forum, is my little digger friend trying to pass off a fake or am I just being my usual, overly suspicious self?
