Hi Dean, its the correct place to ask :-))

A kapo was a prisoner who worked inside German Nazi concentration camps during World War II in any of certain lower administrative positions. The official Nazi word was Funktionshäftling, or "prisoner functionary", but the Nazis commonly referred to them as kapos.

No. 20630 is the prisoner number, Block 42 the house, he"lived".
Holarek Vladimir is the name of prisoner
Ist im Schweinestall beschäftigt = is working in a piggery
Kapo v. Schweinest. = Kapo of piggery

    Hope, i could help you

Allow me to add that the triangle's red color meant that he was a political prisoner and the letter "T" meant that he was Czech. [= Tscheche]
I cannot comment on the item's orginality, though.

    Just noticed this old thread...

Regarding the originality of the above piece, one should always proceed with extreme caution. If we consider how simple a task it would be to mark up an old piece of cloth in such a manner, and put together the paper label too, then we can claim to have an item of great rarity and historical value. The vast majority of cloth KZ related items that are available are spurious, and the whole area is best either avoided, or treated with extreme vigilance. Their are more of those Jude stars out there than there are stars in the night sky...

Currently working on several KZ related projects, including items for the USHMM, Groß-Rosen Museum and various private concerns and studies. Available as a guide to KZ sites, contact for details.
