Unknown beer hall pin?

Hello everyone,

I was given this recently and told nothing more than it was "a beer hall pin."

By the looks of it, I'm assuming it's something real as I can see it's real gold that outlines the Swastika/circle. On searching on the internet, I can't find anything similar. Could anyone identify what it is for me?

Sorry. This is not from the Third Reich era and is a modern fantasy or Neo Nazi item. The clutch pin fitting is American in origin.

Oh? Thank you very much Adrian. No wonder I couldn't find anything similar. I was also suspicious of the non-centered pin on the back.

No harm done though, considering it was given to me.

Out of curiosity, is it common for people to make fakes using valuable materials such as gold? As that is what made me believe that it could be real, as I've verified that the metal inside is real gold.

Only the metal on the outside.......the inside metal is an alloy.
This kind of pin is extremely cheap to make.

Electroplating requires a very minor amount of precious metal to coat an object.
The longer the object is exposed to the process, the thicker the coating
it recieves, but the layers are only several 'microns' thick at best,
and will eventually wear off with use.

Fakers rarely, if ever, use quantitiy amounts of precious metals because there
would be too much money involved. They make things as cheap as possible
to get a desired element of quality, which they have got to achieve
to make the badge, or whatever, look genuine. And besides,
'solid gold' items in this field at least, are
far and few between.
