What is this Nazi Award Plaque?
I was looking around for some pieces to add to my collection when I came across a guy that offered to sell me this Nazi award plaque. The seller is not sure what it is, so I told him I may be able to help him out.
This is the seller's exact words of the plaque's origin: "I bought a load of unusual stuff from an old German living here, he passed away last year but told me this piece was given to him but he removed the name plate from the front of the plaque many years ago and destroyed it, I asked no questions! this was 2 years ago, I have not touched the piece since, it has been in one of my rooms on display, he waxed it on a regular basis."
I was wondering if any of the experts can help me out on this. What is this plaque and what is it worth? Thank You

Re: What is this Nazi Award Plaque?
What does the seller want for it?
Price can sometimes be a clue.

Re: What is this Nazi Award Plaque?
The only thing I can tell you is that the eagle is the pattern used by the Nationalsozialistischer Reichsbund für Leibesübungen [National Socialist Reichs League for Physical Exercise] or NSRL for short.

Re: What is this Nazi Award Plaque?
He knew I was a collector, so he asked me what I thought about the plaque, and what I would offer for it. He didn't have a set price.

Re: What is this Nazi Award Plaque?
Likely awarded as a prize for sports or athletic competition. Quite a lot
- if not most - of the original finish has flaked off, and the way it's
constructed and stained makes it look home-made.
Strange why the 'name plate' had been taken off, unless somebody
wanted to disassociate ones self from it.........

Re: What is this Nazi Award Plaque?
Very strange indeed and too bad, that the name plate has been removed.
What an odd thing to do...

Re: What is this Nazi Award Plaque?
Not only was it removed, but it was destroyed. I don't understand why you would remove a piece from the award, and then take care of it by waxing it on a regular basis. Seems a bit contradictory to me. The story does sound strange, I am just wondering if anybody has seen a similar example somewhere before.

Re: What is this Nazi Award Plaque?
It actually looks like it has not been taken care of very well, IMO.
The seller could be trying to feed you a line.........

Name plate removed and not well cared for! As F-B has said its for some Physical award ands unless if you want it i would not offer him much at all.Its not something thats rare and the plate and all leave much to be desired! IMO.
