    Greetings again,

Many apologies, those linked items are outside of my area of interest (I'm no "expert"), but others more familiar will assuredly chime in soon enough. I'm a pointy-things collector and it would be quite a stretch if I attempted to pass any judgment on medals/badges/adlers.

    Regards,

    Lance

Snyder has some legit items, a lot of bad items, and some pure fantasy items that never existed in the period. The descriptors are colorful and embellished to say the least. Legit items can be found there, but no novice should ever consider buying items from his site. You must know your items well, know the market in terms of value, and be prepared for curt, short communication and bad packaging. Unless you really know your items, avoid at all costs.
Thanks. I won't buy anything from him. Even as a novice, I was able to notice how embellished the descriptions are, and especially how loose he is on the word "mint". Prices are often way above the market too, even if he says that his prices are "fair and below market". All in all, dodged a bullet there.

I would be very wary of any site attempting to sell a fantasy item like that knuckle duster thing. They are either ill-informed or dishonest and neither of those are virtues in this field.

There are lots of excellent and reliable vendors on the net so its no hardship ignoring the Snyders of this world.

    Regards, Philip

Why don't we make a list of reliable and unreliable vendors? If this hasn't already been done.

I recommend that you take a look at PhilippMilitaria.com...Doreen Philipp is an honest & reliable German dealer who guarantees everything she sells and offers a large inventory of Militaria at excellent prices...It's worth a look, friend.
    cheers, Glenn

There are issues of liability for forum owners regarding calling out dealers, some have threatened lawsuits in the past. In reality collectors should never rely solely upon any seller to authenticate items of interest for them. Never buy items based on a sellers reputation. Even the better dealers have fakes or bad items once in a while. Sometimes even the better dealers themselves don't know the items are bad. The best and safest course of action is to become your own "expert" or specialist on items of interest. Post items for opinions from others and learn from them. Study period regulations and publications. Watch the market for items of interest to learn about values. It's a lot of work, almost like a full time job, but this is the safest way IMO to not get burned. Lastly be patient, it's tempting to buy to build a collection but better to add a legit item here and there than to end up with a lot of dodgy items.

IMHO creating a formal list would be a potentially divisive exercise as opinions can easily differ in this area. However, if you spend enough time on this site, reading new and old threads in your area of interest, you will not only improve your knowledge of what to look for to distinguish good and bad pieces, but also the dealers that collectors tend to trust. That way, over time, you will develop your own list of reliable vendors which is perhaps the best way. I speak as a fairly new collector myself.

    Resourceful forum as always!

Philip and Frank have it right...couldn't have said it better! I keep a list of trusted sources on my "Favorites List"...This gives me multiple choices and allows me to compare prices and gauge the average market price, among other things...I also keep Niemann and Nimmergut Price Guides handy for additional information, especially for those less-encountered awards...Knowledge is the key to success in this hobby, I cannot stress that enough, friend...The more you know, the better off you'll be...Welcome to the Forum, you're in the right place...
    cheers, Glenn
