Order of the Red Star: my two contributions, 1495564 & 1598848

Insprired by Bill's posting of some of his Orders of the Red Star, I thought that I would share my two with the forum. I have yet to have these researched, but when funds permit, I will do so.

Here is my first example. Serial number : 1495564

This one I bought last year.

It has been well polished by it's original owner during his service time, but it now has a dark patina which I like.

These are beautiful example, Adrian. I happen to think these are the most beautiful of the Sovet Awards. Let's see, Nr. 1495564 would be a mid 1945 (May/June) awarded piece, and Nr. 1598848 would be a later 1945 (June/August) awarded piece from what has been observed of award numbers and issue dates.

Hi Bill, thank you for your comments. I must agree with you, they are a great looking and quality made award. I certainly hope to obtain more examples.

Thanks for the possible award dates. This is pretty much in line with what I was thinking, which is nice to hear.

Both were purchased here in the UK for about £30 or $60 each.

Hi Bill, I certainly will buy up any more wartime serial numbered ones that I see at these kind of prices.

I have a question regarding the dress regulations concerning the wear of the Order of the Red Star that maybe you can help with?

A friend asked me and I was unsure of the answer. In early and pre war photos they seem to wear the star on the opposite breast to that seen in later years. When did the regulations change?

I think 1943, when some of orders loose screwbacks ( Lenin and Red Banner)
and some got ( as Nevsky Order of GPW etc) only the Red Star has not gotten any changes. Probably I am mistaken, due of orders is not my area of interests, I just have some to complete uniform.
Offtop:
But I need a good screwbacked Red Banner and Lenin ( not cheap), the nices for me is Lenin with battle damage, my friend from Russia bought in Germany one with the piece of shrapnel. Interesting that it was one dealer who has the hidden box with different tinnies and other badges. There was some soviet Guards badges, stars, and other insignia mixed, he told that all this badges he got from veterans familys and the Lenin was sold at the price as usual Guards badge. The order belonged to the major of infantry missed in action near Grodno, and Lenin he got for Finnish war, I really don't remember the name of the owner(friends research), but if it will possible- I'll post the pictures here

Ade, I don't think the regulations did change. It is my understannding the Order of the Red Star, and sometimes more than one, were worn above the right breast pocket. Do you happen to have any pictures where they are not?

Hi Bill, I will ask my friend. He did mention seeing one or two. I know he mentioned Chuikov wearing one.
