Per Schmitt, #3357878 would be late 1954, early 1955, whereas #3422611 would be December, 1956. By the way, pristine examples. . .
What years correspond to which number ranges? I have a Red Star and was wondering how to date it....
Let us know the number and we will try and date it for you.
Hi Darren, these are both great examples.
Cheers, Ade.
Reference Paul J. Schmitt, "Echoes of War, Researching Soviet Military Decorations," Historical Research, Lorton, Virginia, published 2006, generally available. . .
Thanks guys fot your help..i was a year out with my research....
By the skillful and sustained use of propaganda, one can make a people see even heaven as hell or an extremely wretched life as paradise.

Yes, you should use Schmitt's book for awarding dates, and Odysseus © -- Soviet Screwback Orders is great for production dates and types & variations.
Auke, nice to see you here!
Are any of you gentlemen familiar with the "Strekalov" classification system for types and variations?
Thanks Bill, good to be here!
You mean the classification from the big red book about the Order of the Red Star by Durov and Strekalov? They have a more basic classification than Filer at Odysseus © -- Soviet Screwback Orders, with only seven types and less variations, and they have dedicated only one page of their big book to the classification. They mentioned Filer though in their list of contributors in the introduction, so I personally prefer Filer's classification.
Yes, Auke, that is exactly what I was looking for; thank you very much. Sounds as though you prefer Filer's classification system because it is more precise in accounting for finer variations in the characteristics of the Red Star.
