The 1914/1918 Ehrenkreuz

Article about: by danhashman There are those little crossed swords on the ribbon. Is there something to tell about that? I often see Ehrenkreuze whose ribbons have no little swords attached to it, i guess

Here are several nice bars with imperial decorations on them. The top bar has the Zahringer Lion with Swords one of my favorite Imperial awards and the bottom bar is a DRGM marked 3rd Reich era produced bar in the Bavarian style.

    Thumbs up 1914/18 Ehrenkreuz

Here are some bars with 3rd Reich era awards on them.

The top bar is rather rare because it has a War Merit Medal on it, very few of these awards were mounted. The middle bar is a non-combatant version with 25 Year Police Long Service (this bar was captured by a 3rd US Infantry Div veteran). the bottom bar is a Luftschutz bar with 18 year Police Long Service.

The newest addition, found on German eBay and just arrived: Here's yet another miniature bar.

Also made with 15 mm decorations and ribbons and neatly constructed just like a full-size medal bar, I think it is the nicest miniature bar I have acquired so far.

The wearer was a Bavarian enlisted man, decorated with the Bayerisches Militärverdienstkreuz III. Klasse mit Schwerten [Bavarian Military Merit Cross with Swords], the Ehrenkreuz für Frontkämpfer and the Bavarian Dienstauszeichnung III. Klasse [Long Service Award III. Class] for 9 years of service.

A recent addition, here is a four-place ribbon bar with the EKII, the Bavarian MVK or MVO with Swords, the Hamburger Hanseatenkreuz and the Ehrenkreuz für Frontkämpfer.

This is a "soft" ribbon bar constructed by folding down and sewing the ribbons only, without a metal backing plate or pin assembly.

Such bars were normally sewn to the uniform, but what makes this one unsual is that it was fitted with snap fasteners. It was almost certainly for wear on a white summer tunic that required frequent laundering, allowing the bar to be easily removed and reattached:

A nice little gem Andreas. Thanks for sharing. Indeed the configuration with the snaps is not a common one.

This is a great thread that shows the Honor Cross in all of it's variations
    and combinations.

While I do not really collect these, In my search for miniature Eks, it's impossible
not to come across a Hindy or two.
